Rebranding the farm!
You can find the why, where, and how of our move elsewhere on the website, but the big thing is that we've moved to our own farm! So what's next?
Well, since we're no longer on the Hemlock Creek, we've gone with the new farm name of Shared Roots Farm. So along with the big changes that come along with moving a farm (equipment, animals, supplies, installing our high tunnel and greenhouse, moving into a new house..) we also have to update our entire web presence.
A lot has changed since I made my first website, way back in 1996. A lot has changed since I made our Hemlock Creek CSA website way back in 2011! Thankfully, I enjoy the design process, even if I'm slow at it and thankfully we're not in it alone! We're working with the very talented illustrator Kelly Finan (check out her work here, here, & shop her Etsy store here) to get our new farm logo which is helping us design our new brand. We're still in the early stages but are so excited for the drafts that she's sent us so far!
At this point, we're in the very middle of our rebranding and establishing ourselves as Shared Roots Farm. We've got the website up (roughly) and have sent our 2015 CSA info out to our returning CSA members. Next up is getting everything ready to go on the website and on the back end to get our CSA info out to new members. Along with that comes updating all of the great online resources that have popped up over the years to help connect consumers to farms. Updating our Facebook presence is high on the priority list as well, while I'm fairly fluent on fb, keeping up with regular posts and engaging our fb audience is not my forte.
2015 will be our 8th season growing for market, our 6th year with a CSA, our 4th farm name and website, and our 3rd piece of land to work. We started off very small in Nashville TN renting our friends farm, Bramble Hill Farm, for two years where we grew vegetables for one small farmers market, restaurant sales, and our first tiny CSA. We then returned home to Northeastern Pennsylvania, hired as farm managers at Skoloff Valley Farm. During our time there, we increased the garden space from about 3/4 acre to about 4 acres and transitioned to ownership of the business in 2012 - thus switching over to Hemlock Creek CSA.
Shared Roots Farm's first official year with a CSA will be our 5th year with a CSA serving the Binghamton area! We hope that you'll join us for the season and/or help spread the word of our exciting transition to our very own farm!
**10pm update - turns out it's harder than I expected to change a Facebook page's name! Looks like we'll be Hemlock Creek CSA on Facebook for another couple weeks as they require official documents - like a utility bill - to complete the name change process, which could take 14 days.. who would've thought that Facebook would be so particular!
